Railway pricing page

Railway's pricing page scores 7/10: a clear usage-based pitch with named, numbered proof, held back by a muddled Free card, a 4.3s lab LCP and two accessibility misses.

How we score
  • Message clarity 1/2: The headline states the model in plain words and the Free card is in the first screen, but it says "$0 per month" and "then $1 per month" at once; Hobby, Pro and the meaning of "minimum usage" need a scroll, and the per-second rates are hard to translate into a monthly bill.
  • Proof 2/2: Named, attributed quotes with numbers: Dillon Chen, Founder at Common ("We cut our hosting costs by 75% migrating from Heroku to Railway") and John Nunemaker ("$4.5k per month from Heroku"), plus HIPAA and AICPA SOC badges in the footer. The "Most customers save ~40%" line has no source shown.
  • Path to contact 2/2: One primary button per plan ("Deploy a new project", "Deploy with Hobby", "Deploy with Pro", "Contact Sales"), repeated above the compare table, plus a free tier with a 30-day trial and a bill-upload form ("Unlock my savings").
  • Speed 1/2: Lab LCP 4,340 ms fails the 2,500 ms target; lab CLS 0.045 passes. One of two fails (throttled mobile lab run, not field data).
  • Accessibility basics 1/2: Two failures: 1 unlabeled input and 2 empty links. Images have alt text, no heading skips, one h1, lang="en".

What the page does well

Railway leads with the model, not a price table: "Pay only for what your app uses, by the second", a usage chart and a Free card marked "No credit card required". Hobby "$5 minimum usage" and Pro "$20 minimum usage" sit below the fold, each with its own deploy button, then raw unit rates like "$0.00000386 per GB / sec". A long "Compare features" table serves detail-seekers. Proof is specific: Dillon Chen of Common says "We cut our hosting costs by 75%". Where a buyer could get stuck: the Free card reads "$0 per month" and "then $1 per month" in one box, "minimum usage" is explained only in the FAQ, and "Most customers save ~40%" shows no source.

What to copy:

State the billing model in the headline and give every plan its own deploy button, with the free option saying "No credit card required".

What we would fix:

Make the Free card say one thing ($0 trial, then $1), explain "minimum usage" beside the price, and source the "~40%" claim.
